Our founder, Peter Jones, began his working life as an apprentice saddler in the Welsh border town of Abergavenny, a town steeped in the history of leather and tanneries. Peter eventually attained the status of a Master Saddler, and his reputation for quality became widely known to horse owners across the land.
As his business grew, Peter's traditional skills were extended to the manufacture of other leather goods including bullion bags, satchels, cash bags, dog handling accessories and cases for the first hand-held radios. Eventually the company gained access to public procurement contracts for police and fire departments and, consequently, Peter Jones (ILG) Limited was established in 1967 as a manufacturer of industrial leather goods.
The 1980s saw the beginning of revolutionary changes in police communications and security equipment and the company responded to the changing market with innovative designs, combining traditional leather work with modern synthetic materials and the latest technology. In order to accommodate an ever-increasing workload a modern factory unit was purchased in 1989, followed by a second engineering and storage unit in 1998.
Today the company specialises in two product lines:
- Cases and accessories for hand-held radios and instruments
- Police & Security
- Accoutrement holsters, pouches, belts, harnesses and wallets
The introduction of many unique Peter Jones designs over the years has helped elevate us into one of the world’s most sought after suppliers of leather goods for these markets. Our product ranges are constantly reviewed and updated. Designs of new products are based on the specific requirements of relevant agencies whose advice and co-operation are sought at each stage of development. Customer satisfaction is maintained by strict adherence to ISO 9001: 2015 Quality System.
We are also certified to the ISO 14001: 2015 international standard, which specifies requirements for an effective environmental management system. Following its framework assists us in improving our resource efficiency, reducing waste, managing our environmental obligations and improving our overall environmental impact.

From the early days, when Peter operated as a lone tradesman in a Victorian workshop, the business has grown to its present stature as a family-run limited company managed, since Peter’s retirement in 2003, by the next generation.
On site there are thirty-three administrative and production personnel. Peter Jones products are marketed in many different countries around the world, either directly by the company or by its many partners, something Peter could only have dreamed of when first starting out in business. The objective of Peter Jones (ILG) Limited is to continue developing new ideas for application in the current market and, like Peter nearly fifty years ago, to maintain evolutionary awareness ensuring its place as a leader in the leather goods manufacturing industry.
